Flooding

Georges River FloodedThe Georges River, like other Australian rivers, experiences the natural process of flooding. The primary floodplains for the Georges River occur between Glenfield and East Hills as the river flows through the low, soft shale zone. This area is considered one of the most flood-prone valleys in NSW. Above and below this zone, the river is confined to steep sandstone valleys. The worst flood on record occurred in 1873, which represented a 1 in 100 year event where river height rose higher than 10.5m.
