Riverhealth Monitoring Program
The GRCCC has been granted $210,000 from the Federal Government Caring for Our Country Community Coast Care Program for the GRCCC Community Initiated Catchment Management for the Georges River – Riverhealth Monitoring Program.
In collaboration with the combined forces of our nine member councils, the Sydney Metropolitan CMA, and the Georges River Environmental Education Centre new and existing community run streamwatch groups will be trained and resourced to monitor stream health via macroinvertebrate (water-bug) indicators across the catchment.
By conducting sub-catchment wide sampling days, promoted by local media, in association with the nine councils and the Georges River Environmental Education Centre, this project aims to create an on-going culture shift to allow and encourage residents to be active in their river’s management. The resultant data will be used to provide an indicative river health picture and will be used by the Georges River Combined Councils' Committee (GRCCC) to inform further more rigorous studies and guide local council environmental spending on the river through the identification of hotspots.
